2005-present: Senior Applications Scientist, LI-COR Biosciences Development and design of the state-of-the-art instrumentation systems for the study of atmosphere-biosphere interactions, the trace gas and energy exchange, and other environmental aspects. Design of related experiments and field campaigns, methods for data processing and analysis, and theoretical studies of interactions between instruments and environment. 2008-present: Assistant Professor Adjunct, Graduate Faculty, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Service on graduate supervisory committees, collaboration on research with faculty to evaluate instrumental disturbance affecting estimates of net ecosystem carbon exchange, to study and test a new eddy covariance sensors, and to apply new equipment and techniques to measurements of ecosystem gas exchange. 2004-2005: Micrometeorologist, Senior Research Associate, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Multi-year interdisciplinary research of carbon balance and evapotranspiration in the major agroecosystems of the North-Central USA. Measurements, processing and analysis of carbon dioxide and energy fluxes (Eddy Covariance) data, and relevant weather parameters. Modeling of the evapotranspiration in the Great Plains region based on the data from a number of Eddy Covariance and Bowen Ratio stations and on historic weather data. 2001-2004: Research Specialist, University of Nebraska Carbon Sequestration Program Multi-year interdisciplinary research of carbon balance in the major agroecosystems of the North-Central USA. Measured, processed and analysed carbon dioxide and energy fluxes (Eddy Covariance) data, and relevant weather parameters. Designed and implemented near real-time data quality control, data inventory, and post-processing data quality control systems for micrometeorological (Eddy Covariance) flux and weather data processing, co-designed Eddy Covariance stations and related pre- and post-processing data software. 1996-2001: Graduate Research Assistant (PhD), Net exchange of carbon dioxide in grassland and agricultural ecosystems in the ARM-CART region; modeling and year-round measurements Conducted a multi-year field research on the mass and energy fluxes of the native tallgrass prairie and winter wheat ecosystems. Measured, processed and analysed energy and carbon fluxes (Eddy Covariance), and soil, canopy and weather parameters. Designed and implemented computerized near real-time data quality control and data inventory systems, and post-processing data quality control systems for micrometeorological flux and weather data processing. 1993-96: Graduate Research Assistant (MS), An Integrated Investigation of Methane and Carbon Dioxide Fluxes in Mid- Latitude Prairie Wetlands: Micrometeorological Measurements, Process - Level Studies and Modeling Conducted field research on the energy balances of the three wetland ecosystems of Nebraska Sandhills during the growing season. Designed and constructed two independent micrometeorological flux and weather data collection stations. Collected, processed and analyzed data on energy fluxes, water body and underlying soil characteristics, and various weather parameters. 1992: Initiator and leader of the scientific expedition, The complex field research and mapping of Zhamanshin Meteorite Crater: geologic, geomorphic, soil, canopy, and ecosystem structure Organized and led complex field research campaign on the ecosystem structure and analysis of the Zhamanshin Meteorite Crater (Aral Sea Region, Kazakhstan). Conducted field mapping of geomorphic features, soils, vegetation, and ecosystems of the crater, designed quantitative methods of the structure detection via hydrological patterns, developed a method of classification, categorization, and detecting of the craters via their ecosystem structures. 1991: Field Assistant, FIFE (First International Satellite Land Surface Climatology Project Field Experiment): Intensive Field Campaign "KUREX-91" on Steppe-Prairie Study Provided assistance in instrument setup, data collection, and sky image photography for the study of bi-directional reflectance (Parabola system) in the Native Steppe National Preserve (Kursk Region, Russia). Participated in multiple joint data collection efforts, workshops and other research activities of FIFE-KUREX participant organizations (NASA, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Washington State University, University of Tartu, etc.) Scientific Expeditions: 1991: Technical Assistant, The reconnaissance field research of the East Carpathian Mountains for the creation of GIS and local landscape monitoring network Assisted in field research on the assessment of the ecological status of the Carpathian Mountains (Ukraine) for the creation of GIS and local landscape monitoring network. Conducted soil and water sampling, and ecosystem mapping of the tundra in the subpolar region of the Central Siberia. 1990b: Research assistant, Detailed landscape field examination and landscape mapping of the "Romashka" summer camp's territory for landscape architecture and rational ecosystem use recommendations Contributed to the short-term contract work on the assessment of the environmental impact and landscape conditions of the area for the landscape architecture. Conducted human impact mapping of the mixed forest of the Central Russia. 1990c: Research assistant, Ecological and medium-scale landscape investigation and ecosystem mapping of the territory for the development of the "Kulikovo Pole Battlefield" National Park Assisted in the contracted research on the soils and landforms of the projected historical national park "Kulikovo Pole Battlefield". Conducted soil mapping of the steppe region of the Southern Russia. 1989: Topographer and field technician, Geomorphic field research of the coast-erosion processes in the Caspian Sea Region of Dagestan Conducted topographic mapping and photography of the parts of the Caspian Sea coastal area to assess the potential damage of the coast-erosive processes to man-made structures. Teaching: 2005-present: Developed electronic courses and lecture series on the micrometeorological flux measurements as a part of LI-COR Biosciences Educational Series; designed educational materials on the aspects of soil CO2 flux measurements, Eddy covariance methodology; provided numerous seminars, educational presentation, consultations and technical help on various aspects environmental instrumentation. 2002: Conducted series of lectures on Microsoft Windows system, Microsoft Office and essential computer knowledge, Lincoln Action Program. Designed, developed and conducted lectures and lab exercises on the topic. 1999: Made a series of educational web-pages (in BlackBoard intranet system) for Microclimate-408/808 course, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Designed and developed web-page package to demonstrate field data on weather parameters, energy and carbon fluxes, and atmospheric stability. 1995-2002: Taught several one-time classes on the topic of instrumentation for weather and flux measurements for Environmental Instrimentation-896 and Microclimate-408/808 courses, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. 1995: Conducted multiple lectures and poster presentation "Water in Russia" for middle schools of Nebraska at Nebraska Water Festival, Grand Island. 1993: Team Leader and Lecturer on Russian Language and Culture at International Action of Psychological Help for Troubled Teenagers in Moscow and Krasnogorsk. Taught a series of classes and conducted multiple exercises with a group of problem teenagers from Australia on team effort, psychological adjustment in unfamiliar environment, and on Russian language and culture. 1992: Tutor in mathematics and physics. Taught math, calculus, algebra, and physics. 1986-88: Assistant of mountain hiking coach in Moscow Alpinist and Mountain Hiking School. Taught the basics of the mountain hiking and alpinism, on resolving emergency situations and first aid. Leaded groups in 17 long term (7 to 45 days) treks and in numerous 1-3 days routs in different parts of Russia, Cabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya, Ingushetia, Ukraine, Georgia, Abkhazia, Crimea and Caucasus Mountains. |
